GENERAL WAGE CLAIM

MR SKINNER CRITICISES GOVERNMENT (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 21. The Government had not shown the workers sympathy An their claim for an .early hearing or the general wage application, said the Deputy-Leader of the Opposition (Mr C. F. Skinner) in a midday open-air address to 250 engineers and Auckland Transport Board employees today. The Government said that the hearing would have to wait until Mr Justice Tyndall returned from overseas, and was not prepared to make any increase retrospective. Replying later to a questioner, Mr Skinner said the Labour Party believed in conciliation and arbitration, but considered the Court of Arbitration should be left “free and unfettered.” Applications for wage increases should be judged on their merits.
