BLENHEIM’S AIRPORT AGAIN CLOSED
HEAVY RAIN ON SUNDAY
(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, July 20.
The Woodbourne airfield, waterlogged again after heavy rain yesterday, is closed to all traffic. Several acres of the field was under water yesterday afternoon. This morning there was still a fair amount of surface water. Passengers to and from Blenheim are being takeh by road from and to Nelson.
The closing of the field is another set-back to the air freight service, which began operating from Woodbourne again on Friday afternoon. It was intended to fly practically a round-the-clock service to move the freight accumulated since Woodbourne had been closed to the big aircraft. Four return trips were made on Friday and 12 on Saturday.
