"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. July W-Hitch-hikers on New Zealan SjJ arterial roads received a setback wim the opening of Auckland’s new motorway last week. Under special mo *2£' way legislation passed in lv4u pedestrians are excluded from using the new outlet. Cyclists and stocx are also excluded. At the official ceremony, the Minister of Works (Mr W. S. Goosma®’ said a man had been prosecuted fined in Wellington for disobeying tn® anti-pedestrian law. Although the new road is dtsign®** and built for safe travelling at miles an hour, the legal maximun* o* 50 miles an hour still apolies. Vehicle must not stop on the motorway except in an emergency. In the event m J puncture or mechanical trouble tney must pull over td the 10 foot ency strip at the side of the carriag** ways.
