BADMINTON
MATCHES WON BY EACH SECTION (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July 19. In the opening match in Warrnambool last night, the southern half of the touring New Zealand badminton, team met stiff opposition from the Victorian Badminton Association teamHowever, the New Zealanders won by 4 matches to'3, with one contest not completed. P. D. Skelt, troubled by a slippery floor, was beaten by the former Irish international. J. P. Doyle, in a match which went to three games. Results (New Zealand names first):— Skelt lost to Doyle, 15-12, 3-15, 8-15; S. L. Shand lost to I. Hutchinson, 11-15, 15-9, 9-15; Miss N. Fleming beat Miss S. Blaikie, 11-1, 11-1; Miss S. Cox beat Mrs G. Campbell, 11-4, 11-1; Misses Fleming and Cox beat Miss Blaikie and Mrs Campbell, 21-15; Skelt and Miss Cox lost to Doyle and Miss Blaikie, 14-21; Shand and Miss Fleming beat Hutchinson and Mrs Campbell, 21-15. The men’s doubles was unfinished, the scores being; Shand and Skelt v. Doyle and B. G. Tonkin, 15-12, 10-15. Win Against N.S.W. The other section of the New Zealand team won all six matches against New South Wales at Newcastle. New Zealand won by 10 sets to 0. scoring 119 aces to 104. A crowd Of 500 watched the matches. Results, new Zealand names first:—A. Scott beat McKeon, 1-0; J. Robson and A. Scott beat H. Impey and T. McKeon, 2-0; Mrs J. Robson beat Mrs C. Skipper, 1-0; Mrs J. Robson and Miss D. Bosher beat Mrs C. Skipper and Mrs J. Single, 2-0; J. Robson and Mrs Robson beat H. Impey and Mrs C. Skipper, 2-0; A. Scott and Miss D. Bosher beat A. Bird and Mrs Bird. 2-0.
