COMPENSATION COURT
COAL TRUCKER GIVEN JUDGMENT
Judgment for Trevor O’Brien, of Denniston (Mr D. J. Sullivan), in a claim for compensation against the Attorney-General for New Zealand (Mr H. A. E. Maitland), was given in a reserved decision by the Westland Industrial Compensation Court (Judge J. Dalglish). O’Brien, a former trucker at the Denniston State coal mine, claimed compensation at the rate of £7 10s a week for wages lost during various periods in 1951 and 1952, and later when he had been employed as a rope attendant at lower wages than he would have received had he been working underground as a trucker. He had been involved in an accident in February, 1951, and a dendretic ulcer that developed had necessitated a change in employment. The Court ruled that the amount of weekly compensation and arrears of compensation should be agreed upon by counsel. An order was made for payment of further weekly compensation at a rate to be agreed upon. Plaintiff was awarded £42 costs.
