FOWL FOOD
Sir,—lt was interesting to read the incomplete statement by Mr Royds about the subsidy on fowl wheat and feeding of oats as an alternative. I would like to add the following five points:—(l) The phenomenal yield ot oats last harvest caused the oversupply. (2) Lucerne hay mainly took the place of oats for stock food. (3) 401 b to the bushel of oats: half the bulk was useless shell; wheat, 601 b to the bushel—no waste. (4) If all the poultry-keepers switched /over from wheat to oats there would be a famine in oats as well as eggs. (5) The great scope for an increase in the use of oats for human consumption.—Yours, etc., PLAIN FACTS. July 17, 1953.
