VICTORY PARK AND RUGBY LEAGUE
Sir, —I note that the Australian Rugby League team will play a test match against New Zealand in Christchurch on June 27. I also note that the Rugby Union has no important match for that date. I think, like thousands of other football fans who wish to get a good view of the game, the Rugby Union should offer Victory Park to the League for that day. I am not a 100 per cent, supporter of any code, but like to see any international game. I have seen the Chinese and South Africans play “Soccer’ 5 and the Indians play .hockey at Victory Park in the past. Our gracious Queen saw fit to confer knighthoods on two great professionals—Jack Hobbs and Gordon Richards —and I am sure that the Rugby Union will not lose any prestige by offering the League the park for an Australian v. New Zealand test match. —Yours, etc., ALL SPORT. June 18, 1953, [Mr W. Dailey, president of the Canterbury Rugby Union, had no comment to make on this letter.]
