COMMUNITY CENTRE AT KAIKOURA

COUNTY COUNCIL APPROVES PLANS Plans prepared by a publicly-elected committee for the proposed community centre in Kaikoura were approved by the Kaikoura County Council at its monthly meeting. The centre, will have an area of approximately 10,000 square feet. Included in the plans is a central hall 70 feet by 50 feet, and a stage 50 feet by 20 feet. Provision is also made for a library, Plunket rooms, supper room, and kitchen. The council chairman (Cr. H J. Hewson) said that the £15.000 raised would, with the Government subsidy, make about £24,000 available for the building. A sub-committee from the queen carnival central committee which had raised more than £sooo’ would work in conjunction with the council in the establishment of the centre. Members of the committee were the Rev. Father W. J. Walsh and Messrs V. J. Corbett, W. R. Carson, and G. Austin Smith.
