RECORD TIME BY BLUE MIST

WORLD RECOGNITION SOUGHT

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 23. The Inter-Dominion Trotting Conference has decided to send the performance of the New Zealand mare, Blue Mist, which paded one mile and a half in 3min 3Jsec at Bunbury, Western Australia, on April 8, to the United States Trotting Association for world recognition. The secretary of the conference, Mr J. O. Butler, said: “We are satisfied that all the conditions for a world record were fulfilled in Blue Mist’s trial; but there is one drawback to the record ‘being recognised. In America a saliva test is required from all horses making record bids to check that they were not doped. This is not the practice in Australia, and we are hopeful that the United States Trotting Association will not bar Blue Mist’s record for this reason.’’

The conference also ruled that it would not approve as Australian records either of Captain Sandy’s flying miles in Western Australia after the last Inter-Dominion championships. Captain Sandy paced one mile in Imin 59sec, and later went Imin 57lsec. Mr Butler said neither of these times could be recognised, as Captain Sandy had a pacemaker racing in front of him. /. = .
