ATTACK BY CHINESE PIRATES

BRITISH SHIP ESCAPES (N.Z. Press Association— Copyngm. HONG KONG, June 22. When the shin reached Hong Kong today, Captain Harold Goddard, master of the 3560-ton British steamer Wingsang, reported that his vessel had been attacked by Chinese pirates. Captain Goddard flashed . a radio signal saying that an unidentified junk was spraying him with machine-gun fire when the Wingsang was in the Straits of Formosa, about 280 miles north-west of Hong Kong. He said today that only two bullets hit the Wingsang. He told the crew to take cover, and he steamed away.
