WORLD DISCUS RECORD

A discus throw which exceeded the world record, the second fastest mile ever run by an American, and a new meeting record for the shot put were watched by 15,000 persons in Lincoln, Nebraska, last night, at the annual national collegiate athletics meeting. S. Inness, of the University oi Southern California, made a discus throw of 190 ft OJin, compared with the accepted world record of 186 ft Ilin which Fortune Gordien, of Minnesota, made in Finland in 1949. W. Santee, of Kansas, ran a mile in 4min 3.7 sec. Santee has run the fastest American mile—4min 2.4 sec. The shot put record came from Parry O’Brien, of Southern California. He put the shot 57ft OJin, beating his own record by OJin.
