ATTEMPT ON EVEREST

Seven Days Of Fine Weather

j(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) KATMANDU, May 22. The first news of the British expedition’s assault on Mount Everest is expected to reach Katmandu early next wteek. Seven days’ fine weather in the Mount Everest area has been followed in the last two days by cloudy skies, snow, high winds and 50 degrees of frost.

Mountaineering experts believe the expedition will have taken advantage of the fine spell to make their first attempt to reach the 29,002-foot peak. The result should be known when runners reach Katmandu next week, after a 170-mile trek from the expedition’s base.
