RACING WAIMATE CLUB’S MEETING
INSTINCTIVE FULL TILT FOR DOUBLE Detention was scratched yesterday for the Studholme Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase at the Waimate Racing Club’s annual meeting today. A field of 11 is left, in which Money Lender and Buckingham may be ‘ the favourites. Money Lender has not been easy to keep sound in the past but he came through his race at Washdyke satisfactorily. His winning chance looks bright. Betting will probably be well spread on the Waimate Cup, first leg of the double, and there are light-weights in the field with enough ability to beat some of the better-performed horses near the top of the handicap. Instinctive and Vitalogy, both lightweights, are expected to be prominent in the finish, as well as Dreenagh, fourth in the Timaru Cup. Hermes is not a certain starter in the Waitangi Hack Handicap. If he runs he will be one of the favourites. If he drops out of the field there will be increased support for the top weight, Full Hit, a versatile and consistent Royal Arch gelding owned by Mr A. Grant and trained at Oamaru by J. C. McKerrow. Full Tilt will start from the No. 8 barrier position. B. J. Langford, a smart horseman at the barrier? should have him well placed from the start in the six-furlong event. Brackets:— Waihao Hack Hurdles: Conrad and Master Mariner.
