MR DE VALERA DECLINES

Coronation Day Garden Party

(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 21. The Prime Minister of Eire (Mr Eamon de Valera) said today that his Government had refused invitations to a Coronation garden party at the British Embassy in Dublin because the Royal Style and Title of the Queen had been linked by the British Government with the partition of Ireland. He was answering questions in the Dail.

Mr de Valera said that invitations to the garden party had been received by him and other members of the Government.

“In view of the fact that the Royal Style and Title was unnecessarily and deliberately linked by the British Government with the partition of our country and the British claim to sovereignty over portion of our country, we were unable to accept the invitations.”

Lynching in India.—A crowd lynched a tribesman they suspected of stealing a child for human sacrifice at Jhansi, Central India. The crowd gathered when it heard the shrieks of a small boy who was being carried off by two aboriginal tribesmen. The crowd seized and beat the two men, later killing one.—New Delhi, May 22.
