CROWNING OF QUEEN
Dean’s Plan For Ceremony (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, April 17. Dr. A. C. Don, the Dean of Westminster, who will hand the St. Edward’s Crown to the Archbishop of Canterbury before it is placed on the head of the Queen at her Coronation, said he would take precautions to prevent the delay which occurred at the crowning of King George VI. Speaking at the Constitutional Club, he said “a little difficulty” had arisen on that occasion. “It was noticed at the last rehearsal that the Archibishop had difficulty in distinguishing the front of the Crown from the back. He arranged for a small piece of red thread to be attached to the front of the Crown, so that when the Dean handed it to him, he would know which way to put it on. “The night before the Coronation, come busybody doing last minute polishing up, Removed the thread. That explains why, in the film of that Coronation, you can see the Archbishop take the Crown and turn it round several times before putting it on the King’s head.
“I will make quite certain that does Hot happen d'gain.”
