GUIDES’ HANDWORK DISPLAY
An exhibition of hand work by rangers, guides, and brownies in Canterbury was opened in Christchurch yesterday by Mrs T. W. Tothill and Mrs J. Wright. Divisional Commissioners for Christchurch North and Christchurch South. The prize-winning entries will be sent to Wellington for a Dominion exhibition next month. The Dominion display will be part of the thirtieth anniversary celebrations of the founding of the Girl Guide movement in New Zealand.
Most of the work on display will be sent to refugee children overseas. The exhibits include models of camp sites and gardens, posters depicting guide activities, collections of stamps, leaves of native plants and trees, shells, thrift articles, knitted and sewn children’s clothing, scrap books, and dolls dressed in national costumes.
