PAINTINGS OF THE CORONATION
INVITATION TO LEADING ARTISTS (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, April 8. The Minister of Works (Mr David Eccles) has invited a score of leading artists to paint the Coronation procession, says the columnist of the “Daily Mail.” The artists will have complete ■freedom to choose their site and manner. Among those who have accepted are Feliks Topolski, Edward Seago, Osbert Lancaster, and Kenneth Rowntree. “To avoid professional friction, Mr Eccles has wisely decided to produce a series ‘representative’ of modern British art,” says the correspondent. “Two women, Dame Laura Knight and Miss Cathleen Mann, have also agreed to paint the ceremony. They are well qualified, as both are equally at home with portraits and landscapes. The pictures will be sent to British Embassies and Government buildings in Britain.”
