MEDALS FOR NURSES
Sir, —As a recent patient in Burwood and Christchurch Hospitals I can write with first-hand knowledge of the wonderful service rendered by them by day and night, seven days and nights a week. I wish to support most wholeheartedly the remarks and congratulations to the Hospital Board by William Bell regarding medals for nurses, etc. I also wish to say, without fear or favour, that be the medals gold or otherwise, may the nurses for ever be surrounded by the golden halo of happiness. I am sure most of the readers of “The Press” correspondence column will agree with me in saying that the nursing profession is one of the most noble professions. —Yours, etc., JOHN KAY. April 8, 1953. Sir, —I. too think that the Christchurch hospital medallion is a waste of the ratepayers’ money. Whatever do nurses want two medals on their chests for? The,., only way to induce nurses to remain at the Christchurch Hospital for the fourth year as staff nurses is to make it worth while. Give them a rise in wages. Give them another 13s 6d a week. They are worth it. —Yours, etc.. SODIUM SALT. April 9. 1953.
