THIRTEENTH TRIP ROUND WORLD
SWISS BUSINESSMAN’S TRAVELS “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, April 7. When a man says he is on his thirteenth trip round the world, he is naturally asked how many countries he has visited. When that happened to 60-year-old Dr. Hans Greighaber, of Switzerland* who arrived in Wellington in the 1 Wanganella with his wife, he began to reel off names by the dozen. Asked if it might not be easier to name the countries he had not visited, he said: “Ah, that’s very easy. There is only one—-Alaska.” Dr. Greighaber made his first trip round the worlds in 1922 when he had little money. He read a book called “Knockabout the World,” which told the story of a penniless American who worked his way round. By working In each country he visited and travelling in the cheapest way possible he did the trip in a year. As managing director of an international insurance company which has its headquarters in Switzerland, he Is now able to travel in comfort, as he has business to attend to in most countries he visits.
Dr. Greighaber is not content with the usual sightseeing tours of visitors. Remarkably fit and active for his age, he takes the rough with the smooth. An example of this is the fact that he and Mrs Greighaber travelled overland by car from Cape Town to Cairo last year. Two years previously they traversed the Amazon river from its source to its mouth by canoe, accompanied only by primitive Indians. Dr. Greighaber has written a book entitled “Twenty Years Travelling Round the World,” and illustrated it with his own photographs. As this is his first trip to Australia and New Zealand he means to write another book, including these countries. He will spend a few weeks travelling through New Zealand before leaving for Bali.
