COMPLAINT ABOUT A FACTORY

Sir,—A part of Los Angeles was threatened with air pollution from smoke. A County Air Pollution Control Commissioner was appointed; Inspectors hunted the causes. Information was given about the wastefulness of certain substances going up in smoke, and the remedy applied purified the air, saved much money and recovered 15 barrels of lead a day in one factory alone. Sulphur dioxide, which was devastating crops near Washington, was caught and used for other purposes. Evidently Belgium and Great Britain have strict legislation to control pollution of the air. —Yours, etc., CLEAN UP. May 11. 1952.
