THREE NEW MILLS FOR U.S.

(Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 20. The Defence Production Administration to-day approved the building of three paper mills which will increase the United States output of newsprint by more than 20 per cent. The agency issued certificates of necessity—which provide for Federal tax benefits—to aid the construction of the three projects. The new mills are the Bowater Southern Paper Corporation. at Charleston (Tennessee), 51.500,000 dollars, the Southland Paper Mills Incorporated, at Harty (Texas), 15,000.000 dollars, and the West Tacoma Newsprint Company, at Steilacoom (Washington), 5,000,000 dollars.

The Commerce Department has announced that United States imports of newsprint in 1951 totalled 4,429,063 long tons, an increase of 2 per cent, over 1950. Exports of United States newsprint during 1951 totalled 66,836 tons, compared with 41,861 tons in 1950.
