PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society was held in. the Plunket rooms on Wednesday. Mrs R. E. Alexander was welcomed to the meeting as a new member by the president (Mrs J. E. K. Brown). The following resolution was passed: "That this committee places on record its great sorrow at the death of our much loved King George VI, and expresses its deep sympathy with the Queen Mother, and the members of the Royal Family, and pledges its devotion of loyalty to our new Sovereign. Queen* Elizabeth 11." Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of King George VI. A letter of thanks and appreciation was received from Mrs JC. B. McCreanor, honorary secretary of the Christchurch committee of the PanPacific Women's Association for the generous hospitality and kindness of the society in showing the delegates over Lady King Karitane Hospital. A motion of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Mrs F. H. Pyne, who was a foundation and life member of the society. Miss J. Mackay, who commenced duty as charge sister early in January, was welcomed by Mrs Brown and introduced to the members of the committee. The matron of the Karitane Hospital (Miss J. Horner) gave the following report on the work of the hospital for the month: mothers admitted, 12; babies admitted, 23; mothers discharged, 10; babies discharged, 18; premature babies admitted, 6; premature babies discharged, 7. The charge sister (Miss J. Mackay) presented the following report for tne month: new baby cases, 323; visits to babies in homes. 3609. She reported that several interested visitors had visited the rooms during the month, amongst whom were Dr. Mor lock, of Hawaii, and Mrs Teller, of Australia.
