FUNERAL OBSERVANCE THROUGHOUT N.Z. “IMPRESSIVE TRIBUTE” iNetv Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 15. The Acting Prime Minister (Mr K. J. Holyoake) to-night expressed the Government’s appreciation of the dignified way in which the two minutes’ silence to mark the funeral of King George VI had been observed throughout New Zealand. Reports from all parts of the country showed that this last tribute to a beloved Sovereign was most impressive, he said.
Mr Holyoake, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked local authorities and religious leaders for their co-operation and assistance in the observance of the mourning arrangements, and also for their part in the arrangements last Monday, for the proclamation of the accession of Queen Elizabeth 11.
Mr Holyoake expressed appreciation also to all members of the armed services and the staffs of Government departments who were immediately affected by the special arrangements, and who. had worked long hours to meet the situation.
