EXHIBITION BY CUP PLAYERS
SCHROEDER BEATEN* BY AYRE (Rec. 6.40 p.m.) SYDNEY. Dec. 30. With the strain of the Davis Cup campaign lifted, the Australian and American players thrilled a crowd of 14,000 at the White City courts yesterday with exciting and at times amusing tennis. The matches were staged by the newly-formed Australian Lawn Tennis Club, which is composed of former internationals, and it took the form of an unofficial test A picnic atmosphere prevailed, however, except in the matches between Ayre and Schroeder, and McGregor and Trabert and in the doubles matches between Sedgman and McGregor and Savitt and Seixas. Results were:—l. Ayre beat T. E. Schroeder, 6-0 6-2. K. McGregor beat A. Trabert, 7-5 4-6 6-4. H. Richardson beat M. Rose. 6-3. and Ayre. 6-2 (only one set played in each case). F. Sedgman and McGregor beat R. Savitt and V. Seixas 7-5 6-8 6-5 (no advantage in last set). C. Long and Rose beat F. Shields and Richardson, 6-4 6-2.
