GOLDEN WEDDING
MR AND MRS WILLIAM CLELAND To celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs William A. Cleland, of the Ladbrooks Farm Settlement, a party and dance will be held at Ladbrooks this evening. Mr and Mrs Cleland will have been married 50 years on Christmas Day. Mr Cleland was born in Ballynalinch, County Down. Northern Ireland. more than 80 years ago and came to New Zealand when he was a young boy. He has been farming near Christchurch most of his life, at Belfast, and later at Ladbrooks. Mrs Cleland, whose maiden name was Clara Longmore Alexander, was born in Jersey, in the Channel Islands, and came to New Zealand while still a baby. She and Mr Cleland were married at her parents’ homestead in Marshland road. Mr and Mrs Cleland have two sons. Mr Lester Cleland, of Papanui, and Mr William Cleland, of Ladbrooks, and two grandchildren. About 200 relatives and friends are expected to attend the party this evening.
