JAPAN’S TRADE WITH CHINA

U.S. SENATORS’ VIEWS

WASHINGTON. September 15. Fifty-six Senators advised President Truman yesterday that they were opposed to Japan recognising or negotiating a bilateral trade agreement with Communist China. The Senators said in a joint letter that they wished to make that clear before the Japanese Peace Treaty was sent to the Senate for ratification. The Senators said that such a move would be adverse to the best interests of the people of both Japan and the United States.

They also said they opposed the recognition of Communist China by the United States or its admission into the United Nations.
