WORKSHOP FIRE
REAR OF BUILDING DAMAGED
When fire broke out at the rear of a wooden workshop at A. E. Marriott’s steam wood-bending works at 123 Victoria street on Saturday evening, some damage was done to the rear of the building, woodworking machinery at the rear of the shoo- and to stock. The fire brigade was called at 9.8 c.m. and prevented the fire from gutting the workshop and spreading to other workshops containing more valuable materials. Other premises were also close by.
Mr A. E. Marriott said yesterday that the brigade had made a very good save. He could give no indication yesterday of the amount of damage done. The premises are insured with the Alliance Assurance Company, but it is not known whether the insurance will cover all the damage.
Small Fires The fire brigade received a call on Saturday at 10.12 a.m. to a hedge fire on a vacant section in Kerrs road belonging tp Mr Henry Meredith Sunderland, and at 12.17 p.m. to a grass fire in the Rawhiti Domain, New Brighton.
