The Auckland City Council has decided to buy a new Steinway concert grand piano, at a cost of about £2lOO, plus 10 per cent, on indent, for the Auckland Town Hall. The finance committee reported that it had considered the condition of the pianos in the main nail and the concert chamber and had received reports on them from Professor H. Hollinrake, professor of music at Auckland University College, and Mr Eric Waters. Messrs Lewis Eady, Ltd., had offered to supply the new piano. Purchase of the Steinway was subject to a satisfactory report on it being received from Mr Hugo Anson, registrar of the Royal College of Music. The committee said it was also proposed to apply for the remission of duty and sales tax. If that application was granted the cost the piano would be less than £3lOO.
