RAILWAYS PUBLICITY
MR R. C. MATHEWS RETIRES
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. September 15. On the occasion of his retirement as publicity and advertising manager for the Railways Department. Mr Roy C. Mathews was bidden farewell in Wellington this week at various departmental functions. At one of these, the General Manager of Railways (Mr H. S. Lusty) made a presentation o.i behalf of the executive officers of the department, and "paid tribute to Mr Mathews's services. Mr Mathews also received a presentation at a staff farewell, and he was the guest of honour at a dinner given bv the sales representatives of the branch. From his friends and associates in newspaper, advertising and business circles he received many expressions of -goodwill. Mr H. Maddock, who has succeeded Mr Mathews, joined the department as a cadet and entered the former outdoor advertising branch in 1917. From 1932 he was first assistant to the manager, and after the merging in 1940 of the two branches he became assistant publicity and advertising manager.
