DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

OFFICIAL REPORT

TOTAL OF 39,647 BALES OFFERED

(New Zealand Press Association) , . . , DUNEDIN, September 16. A total of 39,647 bales was offered in Dunedin at the third main wool sale of the season. The offering included 5857 bales of crutchings, as well as eye clips and oddments. ~T hB o, ? 81al re Port issued by the Dunedin wqolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission, was as follows: "Tb® offering of greasy wool was the 1950-51 clip which normally would have been sold In April. ’’There was a full bench of buyers, and the interest displayed was well spread, with the Continent and Bradford taking the major portion, while local mills secured lots suitable to their trade, including occasional crossbred lots. "The offering, in spite of long storage, opened up in excellent condition, but because it was the clean-up sale for last season, the quality varied greatly. “The crutchings were up to normal standard, with the usual percentage of stained and seedy. There was a small quantity of new season’s clip. There was a large offering of lambs’ wool, which met with an erratic market. As compared with the Invercargill sale, prices for crossbreds were slightly lower, while for fine crossbreds the market was down by from 5 per cent, to 10 per cent. Finer half and quarter-breds were 10 per cent, down on Timaru.

“There was a good selection of hogget wool, which met with an erratic demand. Necks and pieces were keenly sought after. There was a good demand for crossbred crutchings at prices on an average of one-third lower than last season’s rates. The demand for halfbred crutchings was not nearly so great, with prices only 50 per cent, of last season. Passings were frequent, and approximated 20 per cent, of the catalogue. "The sale, except the crutchings sold on Friday evening, was at a brisk rate, and 2928 lots were cleared by early evening.”
