SOUTH ISLAND BEATS NORTH, 17-15 (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 18. South Island scored one ol the nearest "on time” victories seen in a Rugby match at Athletic Park when it beat North Island, 17-15. in the annual railway match yesterday. . , .. With only a minute to go, and leading by 15 points to 12, North Island began passing in its own twenty-five, but P. C. Bradley, the South Island centre, took the ball and broke clear to cross near the posts. The try was converted. For North Island, Jones (2) and Mott scored tries, all of which were converted. Mclntyre and Bradley scored tries for the South Island. Bradley converted one try and kicked a penalty goal, and Waterland kicked a field goal.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ MATCH
Playing fast, open football on a hard ground, Xavier College beat Greymouth Marist Brothers’ High School by 9 points to 3 at Hagley Park on Saturday. The score is a good indication of the run of play, the superior weight and combination of the Xavier College team dominating the play for most of the game. For Xavier College tries were scored by L. Berwick. K. Dobbs, and M. Haughey. T. Costello scored for Greymouth. Mr R. Empson was referee.
