MAGISTRATE’S COURT AT LEESTON

LICENSING BREACH Leo Francis Cunneen (Mr A. N. Mackay) pleaded guilty to two charges of selling liquor after hours in the Southbridge Hotel on August 5 and 12. in the Magistrate’s Court at Leeston yesterday. On the first charge he was fined £4 and on the second charge £lO, by Mr Raymond Ferner, SM. who was on the Bench. Two charges of exposing liquor for sale after hours were withdrawn by the police. Sub-Inspector J. McGrath, who prosecuted, said a youth, who had been arrested in Christchurch on a charge of being found Intoxicated in charge of a car, admitted that while attending a football match as a spectator at Southbridge on Sunday, August 5, he had obtained liquor at the Southbridge Hotel TWe defendant had .been interviewed, and although admitting that he had supplied liquor to the football team, he denied that he had supplied the youth with liquor. On August 12. a police sergeant and constable vjsited the hotel, and on their arrival, there had been a general exodus, during the course of which the constable had been knocked over. Defendant was found in the bar and admitted having supplied liquor. Several persons were found in rooms on the premises. At the time of the visit, the defendant was unaware of the inquiries that had been made concerning the charge in respect of August 5. He had been very frank with the police. On charges of being found on the Southbridge Hotel after hours, the following were each fined 20s:—Walter Kave Tatteraon, Vincent Brinsley Nielson. Patrick William Candy, Desmond Martin Brown, Eileen AVhite. and Maud Allen. Traffic Offences Offenders against the traffic regulations were dealt with as follows: No driver’s licence: Peter Maurice ' Brasier. 30s.
