MR HARRIMAN’S MISSION
MORE TALKS PLANNED IN LONDON
(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) TEHERAN, Aug. 25. Mr Averell Harriman, President Truman’s special representative, left Persia early to-day. Before boarding his aircraft, he said: “It will not be many months before Persian oil is supplanted from other oilfields. That is another reason for an early agreement between Persia and Britain."
Mr Harriman will have further talks on oil in London with British officials, after spending a few days in Belgrade.
Earlier. Mr Harriman said he regretted that a settlement had not been reached in the oil dispute, but that a good deal had been accomplished. “A basis tor negotiations was established under the formula submitted through me,” he said. “Both parties agree that this is a sound basis upon which the discussions, now suspended, can be resumed.”
Mr Harriman said he planned to return to Washington about September 1, when he would report personally to Mr Truman on the Teheran talks.
