SHIP DESERTERS SENTENCED

Donald James Parker, aged 20, and Frank Newman, aged 17, seamen, were charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Lyttelton yesterday, before Messrs W. C. Cleary and W. T. Lester, Justices of the Peace, with having deserted from the overseas ship Karamea. They pleaded guilty, and each was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
