TRAMWAY LOANS
Sir,—Just a line in support of your leading article in “The Press” this morning in reply to Mr H. E. Jones. My objection may arise from a different standpoint, since I am one who cannot see any objection to trams at all. It is doubtful if anyone can, except the man in the motor-car or truck. Is it the effect of the prevailing revolution, enormous wages, etc.? The way to meet this is an increase in rates and liability on every individual living here for 12 months, to pay a rate, whether a ratepayer or not. That would bring it home to all that costs of administration mainly are to blame for cost of transport. Finally, if a loan is raised, spend ti entirely on the existing tram system. - Yours, etc., PRO TRAMS. I January 30, 1950.
