GLADIOLUS SHOW

EXHIBITION AT WINTON STREET

The largest number of blooms yet staged at a Sunday exhibition of the New Zealand Gladiolus Society were on view at the Winton Street Hall, St. Albans, last Sunday. Quality was weH maintained in spite of the weather. The champion bloom of the exhibition and premier bloom of the open section was a well-balanced spike of Spic and Span, exhibited by Aurora Gardens. In the amateur section Mr W. G. Wakeham won the premier bloom with a good spike of Firebrand. This would have been an outstanding spike if it had had a little more top. Awards were made as follows; — Exhibition Type.—Open section: Aurora Gardens, 2 firsts; W. R. Toon, 1 first, I'second; W. G. Wakeham, 2 seconds, Amateur section: W. G. Wakeham, 3 firsts; C. M. Clemens, 3 seconds. Novice section: I. Stevenson, 1 first, A. Bell 1 second. Seedlings: A. I. C. McKillop, 1 first; H. Blackburn, 1 second.

Decorative Classes.—Open section: G. F. Roberts 1 first; W. R. Toon, 9 firsts 1 second; Aurora Gardens, 1 first, 3 seconds. Amateur section: W. G. Wakeham, 3 firsts, 4 seconds; F. Jones, 1 second; S. Harris, 3 firsts; H. Blackburn, 3 firsts, 1 second; R. W. Davies, 2 seconds. Novice section: A. Bell, 4 firsts.
