RECESSION NOT ROUND CORNER

MR HOLLAND SPEAKS AT LEVIN (New Zealand Press Association) LEVIN, November 24. There was no justification whatever for the Labour Party’s view that a recession was just around the corner, said the Leader of the National Party (Mr S. G. Holland) when he visited Levin this afternoon. Labour claimed it could marage a depression but New Zealanders did got need to elect managers of depressions, because the Dominion’s future was bright, particularly in view of the prices obtained for primary produce and the worldwide demand for it.

No mere printing of money could bring prosperity, added Mr Holland. That depended on an all-out drive for more production. There were 800 in the hall and groups stood in the street outside listening to amplifiers. There were no interruptions but Mr Holland’s closing words were drowned in a wave of applause.
