NATIONALISATION FEARED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 24. Over the names of the president (Mr W. D. Lane) and the secretary (Mr P. J. Doogan), the General Insurance Unicm has sent a circular to its members inviting them to consider whether thn Labour Party will permit them to continue as employees of private companies. “There can be no doubt,” says the circular, “but that the Labour Party intends to nationalise bit by bit the insurance business from which we derive our livelihood.” The circular quotes an election Statement by Mr P. Kearins, Labour candidate for Waimarino. He was reported to have said: “I hope we will make a complete monopoly of fire insurance in this country.” Also quoted is the National Party’s statement that it would, “not only leave our business alone but will return to us the right to compete against the State office for workers’ compensation insurance.” “Since you have decided to make insurance your career.” the circular says, “it is up to you to see that you have an insurance profession in which to work ”
