FINE NIGHT PLEASES IN MILE RUN

Jamgll provided one of the outstanding gallops in the final trials at Riccarton yesterday whefi he ran seven furlongs on the course proper in Imin 27 3-ssec. He ran the last half mile in 49 l-ssec. Jamell is not engaged on the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, but he will race on the third day. Western Winner and Fine Night shared tpe honours over a mile, though Fine Night completed his work more impressively.

The two-year-old Apex and High Spirits recorded the best half mile on the course proper, and Magical was one of the most impressive workers on the plough. The two-year-olds. Dark Courage (K. Nuttall) and Sharessa (C. T. Wilson), galloped their half mile on the course proper in 49 l-ssec, and they were on terms at the .finish. Romantic was two lengths clear of Valid at the end of a mile in Imin 41 3-ssec after reeling off the first half mile in 48sec. Both had lightweights up. Robin’s Song (C. H. Mackie) and Super Snipe (W. J. Broughton) were on terms after running seven furlongs in lmin 30 3-ssec, the last half mile in 51 3-ssec. Pastel (L. J. Ellis) could have improved on her 50sec for Half a mile. She will be the favourite for the Pioneer Handicap. False Step (C. H. Mackie), which is not a certain starter in the Jockey Club Handicap, r?n six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec, the last half mile in 50 2-ssee. Broie (J. T. Anderson) was half a length clear of Langham (W. Jacobs) after running six furlongs in lmin 19sec, the last halt mile taking‘ss 3-ssec. Valley Gold (M. R. Jones), whose clearcut win last Saturday brought him into favour for the Otaio Plate, had little pace op from the mile and ran his last half mile in«even time. Signal Officer (C. T. Wilson) broke away from the mile ahead of Bragden (W. Hodge) and they finished together m lmin 43 3-ssec, the last half mile in 51 2-ssec. Both worked keenly. Full Play (Low) was half a length clear of Golden Spp ' (Broughton) with Jolly Sailor (S. A. Waddell) three lengths further back after running five furlongs in lmin 2sec, the last half mile in 49 1- Full Play was on his best behaviour and caused no trouble before he moved away. Eiofa (R. Drinkwater) and Primitive (K. Nuttall) could have improved on their lmin 35 3-ssec for seven furlongs, the last half mile in 51 l-ssec. Revolte Shows Dash Revolte (A. J. Stokes) which finished strongly in the middle of the field in the Riccarton Handicap on the first day, showed dash to run his half mile in 48 2His Nibs (A. C. Messervy) and Avenger (W. J. Broughton) completed seven furlongs in lmin 31 l-ssec, and came home the last half mile in 51 4-ssec. Billy Mac (Wilson) and All Alone (C. H. Mackie) were on terms at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 33sec, the last half mile in 52sec. Apex (Broughton) and High Spirits (N. A. Crombie) both shaped pleasingly to record 48 l-ssec for half a mile. Reformed (B. R. Thomson) appeared to be going better than Espalier (H. W. Skinner) over the final stages of their run over seven furlongs. They recorded lmin 30 3-ssec, and did the last half mile in 52 3-ssec. Smart Effort Western Winner (E. G, Low), after running his first half-mile in 48 4-ssec, completed a mile in lmin 41sec. That effort drew attention to his prospects in the Jockey Club Handicap on Saturday Lodestar (R. W. Gould) dashed over half a mile in 50 3-ssec. She shows ability in her training tasks, but has been disappointing as a racing proposition. Bobby Socks (D. M. Kerr) was half a length in front of Puss in Boots (Anderson) at the end of half a mile in 50 1-5 sec. Show Boy (Broughton) and Bon Chale (J. Stewart) ran a mile in lmin 43sec,- the last half in 53 l-ssec. Hazaan (O. Gallagher) sprinted home from the half-mile in 49sec. Redlo (A. E. Didham) and Addition (A. N. Didham) ran their seven furlongs in lmin 37 2-ssec, the last half-mile easily in 55 2-ssec. Fine Night Fit -Fine Night (K. Hollamby) drew out to be six lengths clear of Bobby Dazzler (B. R. Thomson) at the end of a mile in lmin 41sec, the last half in 49 3-ssec. Fine Night is a fit candidate for the Metropolitan Handicap. Detain (L. W. Hare) was three lengths tn front of Goldstrike (B. Hepburn) at the end of six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the last half-mile taking 51 4-ssec. Delayed (A. E. Didham) was a length clear of Command (A. N. Didham) after running half a mile in 49 l-ssec. Delayed has disappointed his trainer since brought to Riccarton, and he has no engagement on Saturday. On the Plough Lady Christine (M. R. Jones) sprinted home from the six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. Coxswain followed in lmin 19sec. the last half-mile in 53 l-ssec. Lord Elgin (Crombie) was half a length in front of Robinfaye (Wilson) at th* end of seven furlongs in lmin 29sec. the last three furlongs in 38sec. Lord Elgin has been working pleasingly, and may run prominently in the Jocicey Club Handicap. Revelry (Broughton) moved nicely over seven furlongs in lmin 33 2-ssec. the last three in 40sec. Magical (McDonald) one of the early favourites for the Jockey Club Handicap, moved attractively throughout six furlongs in lmin 15sec, the last half-mile in 50 3-ssec. Gay Stroller (A. J. Stokes) drew out to be four lengths clear of Adios (P. Spratt) at the end of a mile in lmin 44 4-ssec, the Last half-mile in 52 2-ssec. Maryburn Pleases Mary burn (M. H. Hillis) was seen in a favourable light in his gallop over a mile with Liebestraum (A. C. Messervy) and Welcome Guest <C. McDonald). Maryburn was galloping easily over the final stages, while the other two were being shaken up to stay with him. The mile was run in lmin 44sec, the last half m 52 4-ssec. Beaumaris (L. J. Ellis) arid Peridot (R. W. Gould) were ooth moving well at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 33 3-ssec, the last tnree in 39sec. Resolute (L. J. Ellis) and Assault (C. McDonald) followed in lmin 33sec, the last three furlongs taking 39sec. Flying Sovereign (Wilson) moved attractively over six furlongs in lmin 16 4-5 sec, the last half-mile in 50 4-ssec. Ballochmyle (D. R. Mackie) could have improved on his 52 2-ssec for half a miie. Sweet Spray’s Effort Sweet Spray the early favourite for the New Zealand Oaks Stakes, was four lengths clear of The Laird (Messervy) at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 29 3-ssec, the last half mile in 50 4-ssec. It was an attractive effort on the part of Sweet Spray. Glenkindie and Rising Tide (G. W. Mein) moved away from the five furlongs and sprinted home from the three furlongs in 36 3-ssec. Golden Amber (D. J. Thistoll) was shading Conclusion (P. Johnston) after running six furlongs in lmin 17 l-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec. Pierre (Broughton) and Autocrat (Mein) did well to run seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssec, after covering the first •half a mile in 50 2-ssec. Ryeland (I. McClure), Magnaform (Wilson), and Lady Guillotine (Anderson) ran their six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. Working Well Love Letter (R. Williams) was a length clear of Skyzami at the end of seven furlongs In lmin 31 l-ssec, the last half mile in 52sec. Love Letter has been impressive in her training, but her task in the Seymour Handicap will be made more difficult by her wide barrier position. Western Front (G. Hillis) was a length clear of Radical (Johnston) at the end of a mile in lmin 44 l-ssec, the last half in 51 l-ssec. . Renowned (Nuttall) and Foxmorn (C. T. Wilson) sprinted five furlongs in lmin 6 2-ssec, the last three in 40sec. Duvaals (Nuttall) showed dash over half a mile in 49 l-ssec. Placidity (D. J. Thistoll) and Royal Scrip (B. S. Finlayson) covered seven furlongs in lmin 32 2-ssec, the last half mile in 51 l-ssec. Dunkirk, (L. W. Hare), winner of the Spring Nursery Handicap last Saturday, sprinted three furlongs in 39 l-ssec.
