TIMBER WORKER INJURED

COMPENSATION CLAIM SETTLED A claim for compensation by Gilbert Yates, a timber worker, against the Papanui Timber Company, Ltd., was called for hearing before Judge Ongley in the Compensation Court yesterday, but counsel informed the Court that a settlement had been made. In his statement of claim, Yates said he suffered an injury to his left leg while at work on September 20, 1948. He had been totally incapacitated since then, and would be fit for only the lightest work in future. Mr B. A. Barrer, counsel for Yates, said that the claim had been settled for £B5O and £25 costs. He asked that judgment be entered for that amount. Mr R. P. Thompson, for the company. said he consented to judgment for the plaintiff. He said that Yates had already received £330 in weekly compensation payments, and the settlement meant that he would receive a total of £llBO. / The judge entered judgment for the amount of the settlement.
