FISHING RIVERS
Sir,—Last Friday information published in "The Press” regarding the fishing rivers stated the Halswell to be clear and fishable. This was not the case, as the Halswell, for several miles, was a mass of floating weed, owing to operations by the weed cutter. • If the Acclimatisation Society is unable to ascertain when the weed cutter is operating, it would be better to omit the Halswell when supplying information to ‘‘The Press."—Yours, etc., THIRTY 808. November 22. 1949.
[“Regret is expressed if this stream was not fishable, said the secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr H. R. Bennington). “AH reasonable care is exercised in collecting reports from established, reliable sources on the condition of the various rivers and the information circulated was according to that received.”]
