LATE- ARRIVAL OF CARGO

IMPORT RULES NOT TO BE RELAXED

AUCKLAND. March 1. The Canadian steamer Tridale, which arrived at Auckland at 1.15 p.m. today, was a little more than 13 hours too late for her American cargo to enter New Zealand under the 1948 import programme. The Minister of Customs (Mr W. Nash) declined in Auckland to-day to relax the regulations or arrange for the cargo to be landed against 1948 licences. “We could >uiot relax the regulations.” Mr Nash said. “We extended the period by two months to overcome this type of late delivery, and it would upset calculations if we made another change now. We would have others pressing for like facilities for the next ship, and the next.”
