DAMAGES CLAIM AGAINST CROWN
SUPPLIANT AWARDED £983 Albert Shaw Williamson, a rope road worker, of Runanga, received judgment for £983 19s in the Supreme Court at Greymouth yesterday on a damages claim for £2BOl 9s against the Crown on the grounds that an accident m which he was involved on January 30, 1948. at tne Liverpool State mine at Rewanui, was the result of the negligence of servants of the Crown. Williamson claimed permanent disability as the result of injuries which he suffered when he was struck by the haulage rope at the Big Viaduct, Rewanui. He sought £2500 general damages and £3Ol 9s special damages. The jury, after retiring for three-quar-ters of an hour, awarded him £750 general damages. Special damages, £233 19s. were awarded by agreement, and Mr Justice Northcroft entered judgment for £983 19s. Mr W. D. Taylor appeared for the suppliant and Mr F. A. Kitchingham for the Crown.
