STEAD COLLECTION IN MUSEUM

ADDITION OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF BIRDS Under the terms of the_will of Mr Edgar F. Stead, his unique collection of photographic plates will become the property of the Canterbury Museum. The collection of hundreds of photographs was accumulated by Mr Stead during more than 50 years’ study of bird life, started during his schooldays at Wanganui Collegiate School. A condition of the gift is that the collection should always be available for study by members of the Ornithological Society of New Zealand. The museum, not long before Mr Stead’s death, received gifts of bird skins and eggs, and a cash donation of £lOOO, from him. Mr Roland Stead said yesterday that he and his mother had decided to add to the Stead collection all his father’s scientific material and any volumes from his father’s scientific library that the museum wanted.
