FOOD PARCELS FOR BRITAIN
VALUE EMPHASISED BY EXPERT (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Feb. 28. “Food parcels, to the British people, are an absolute godsend.” said Professor L. D. Davidson, of Edinburgh U diversity, who arrived from Sydney in the Aorangi to-day. Professor Davidson, who is accompanied by his wife, is an expert on the nutritional value of food. For a month he will lecture at post-graduate courses in the four main centres, beginning in Dunedin; for another month he will relax and fish. Professor Davidson said that he doubted whether a speech by Mr Winston Churchill had such a tonic effect as the receipt of a food parcel. “I do not know of any single thing that has done more to cement the British Commonwealth together than the sending of, food parcels.” he added. STRATHEONA Miss E. Zimmern (London), a former president of the Associated Countrywomen of the World, last week visited the Stratheona home training hostel at Pleasant Point, and showed much interest in the work there. At a meeting of the board of managers of the hostel, the farm committee reported that the land was suffer-’ ing from drought, and that the supply of milk had suffered in consequence. However, there was a plentiful supply of hay for, the winter, and the fodder crops were coming on satisfactorily. The new matron. Mrs Munro, reported briefly. Gifts of money and goods were gratefully acknowledged from individual friends and from women's institutes and branches of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers.
