OBITUARY

MRS WILLIAM BROWN Mrs M. A. M. Brown, who died in Christchurch yesterday, was for many years a staunch and generous friend of several branches of women’s sport in Christchurch. In her younger days she was a basketball player and an able administrator and later became patron and a life member of the Canterbury Basketball Association. Like her daughter, Miss Doreen Brown, who is secretary of the Canterbury head centre of the Royal LifeSaving Society and formerly secretary of the Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Mrs Brown was keenly interested in swimming and did much in support of clubs and in encouraging young members to become proficient. • Mrs Brown, who was the widow of Mr William Brown and was 78 years old, had been ill for a long time.
