♦ COMMITTEE’S PROGRAMME FOR 1949

A tentative programme oi research by the fish committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was described byzthe chairman of the committee. Dr. D. McK. Dickson, at a meeting of the council of the society last evening. With the assistance of .the Marine Department, said Dr. Dickson, it was proposed to take a census of the fish in the Selwyn river and to map the spawning beds in the district. The netting programme at Lake Lyndon, which provided valuable information about the fish population, would be continued. The effects of eel control at Lakes Taylor and Sheppard would be studied. The modification of waterfalls at Slovens creek and the Sisters stream, and the development of plans for extended fish salvage work would be considered. A study of the movements of shags would be made.
