SYDNEY PAPER MAKES FUN OF ACT

SYDNEY, January 26. “Greetings, citizens of Australia,” says the “Sydney Morning Herald” “or have you forgotten that t<?-day, by act of Parliament, you become citizens of your own country, which is just what you were before? “British subjects born in Australia, and those who have been here at least five years, to-day become citizens automatically. Others may become citizens by registering. They need not register if they do not want to. They remain British subjects, as do automatic citizens, in either case. “There is nothing to be gained and nothing to be lost by registering, but the scheme will provide a few more forms for them to play round with in Canberra.”
