AURORA AND MAGNETIC STORM

A heavy magnetic storm and an aurora in the northern hemisphere have interfered with telegraphic communication with Europe. The inward and outward cablegram traffic of New Zealand was much delayed yesterday. Eut for the heavy cloud over Christchurch an aurora could have been seen, said an official of the meteorological office at Wigram early last evening. A faint reddish-mauve light could be seen on the eastern horizon at 12.30 o’clock this morning.
