RUGBY FOOTBALL
PRACTICE BALLS FOR ALL BLACKS
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 26. The manager of the 1949 All Black Rugby team to tour South Africa, Mr J. H. Parker, of Wellington, has arranged for eight-panelled Rugby balls, similar to those used in South Africa, to be supplied to key personnel such as the halfbacks and goal-kickers, well before the departure of the team. The standard Rugby ball in New Zealand is fourpanelled.
Mr Parker, who was a wing-forward in the 1924 All Blacks, has arrived in Auckland to meet the captain. F. R. Allen, and other Auckland members of the 1949 team.
He said he was most concerned that all members of the team should appreciate the necessity of achieving physical fitness before the tour began. The team was not now scheduled to leave until after Easter, and it was therefore desirable that the players should obtain match practice.
